The 2003 Chevrolet Corvette
2003 was the 50th anniversary for Corvette. A 50th anniversary edition was offered
and it also was chosen as the pace car for the Indy 500. Buyers of the 50th anniversay
edition could make it a pace car with the optional $495 graphics package. The anniversay
edition included most of the options and a special "Anniversary Red Metallic" paint.
The interior was decked out in shale leather and for the first time in a C5 the
dashboard was not black. A new selective ride control RPO F55 replaced the F45 ride
control this year. It used a magnetic fluid that could be electrically controlled
to make up to 1,000 changes per second. This allowed a Vette travelling at 60 mph
to make a change every inch of road travel. Light Pewter Metallic and Magnetic Red
Metallic were deleted this year and the only new color was the Anniversary Red Metallic
which is much darker than the older Magnetic Red. All 2003 included 50th anniversary
badging. The Z06 hardtop was thickened to conform to safety standards.
